Control Your Keyboard
Controlling Your Keyboard
Action remains the largest determinant of success in any endeavor. You must identify and execute the correct actions, but consistently doing something that moves you forward is a fundamental success principle. Many people do not consciously control what they put into their careers, sales, or health, yet we completely control the actions we input into our lives, which directly impact the outcomes we achieve.
The Power of Your Inputs
All of us own a device like a phone or computer; you virtually cannot operate in today’s world without one. Each of those devices has a chip embedded in it that controls and directs information to your screen. The information that appears on your screen is requested by the keystrokes from your keyboard or phone. You control the keystrokes on the computer. You control the inputs.
Health: Programming Your Cells
From a health perspective, it is important to remember this analogy when you make choices about nutrition, exercise, and wellness. You make a choice every time you pick up weights to build muscle, eat healthy food, or do modalities like red light therapy, cryotherapy, and sauna. By controlling the inputs you put into your body, you directly impact your future wellness. Your cells and their membranes are like the chip in your computer or phone that controls the pathway of messages from the keyboard to your body.
Business: Directing Your Outcomes
The same analogy also dictates your success in business. Everyone has activities and actions they perform, but the real question is whether those activities are the right ones and whether they positively affect your outcomes. The choices made each day affect the results of your business and the experiences of your clients. You either choose activities that move your business forward, or you choose to be distracted by tasks that frustrate you, move you further away from your goals, or fail to help your clients build trust in your services. When you think of your choices as strokes on a keyboard, it becomes clear that you control your destiny, and your choices directly impact how information flows and the successes you experience.
The Origin of the Analogy
This analogy comes from the book The Biology of Belief by Dr. Bruce Lipton. While researching cellular health, he realized he had seen a similar explanation shortly after purchasing his first Mac computer. The instructions and information on his new computer used the same analogy, and it resonated with him from both a health standpoint and a business perspective. Too often, people say their health is set in stone by their parents or that the economic environment dictates their success. In reality, it is our inputs and how we direct our cells and businesses that dictate success.
